Mini-Secretariat Helps Bring Various Govt. Services Under Single Roof For Gurgaonites
By Sanjay Sharma, Section Development
Posted on Sat Jan 29, 2005 at 06:49:36 PM EST
Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot at the inauguration of the Mini-Secretariat on October 06, 2004.
Treading the path of Chaudhary Devi Lal's vision of bringing the Government to the citizens, and to make the administration easily accessible to the citizens, a Mini-Secretariat was inaugurated on October 06, 2004 by Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and Deputy Speaker Gopi Chand Gehlot.
- The aim of the secretariat is to provide a single window service at the mini-secretariat to provide the facility of various administrative services at a single place.
- A number of offices of the State Government function under one roof and the people do not have to run from one place to another to get their works done.
The opening of the Mini-Secretariat, and the availability of various administrative functions at the same place, has been a boon for the Gurgaon citizens.

"Sarkar Aapke Dwar" & "Vidhayak Aapke Dwar" Brings Peoples Representative Closer To The People
By Sanjay Sharma, Section Development
Posted on Sat Jan 29, 2005 at 10:15:49 AM EST
Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot listen to the problems and concerns of the citizens in INLD's signature program "Sarkar Aapke Dwar."
India is a vibrant and the largest democracy in the world. The Government of Haryana took great strides to fundamentally improve upon the democratic principles under the leadership of Honourable Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.
"Sarkar Aapke Dwar": For the first time in democratic history of the world, a program "Sarkar Aapke Dwar" (Government At Your Doorstep) was envisaged by the Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala when he saw certain shortcomings in the system. The poor people could not travel to the State Capital so the Chief Minister took it upon himself to bring the government to the people.
The "Sarkar Aapke Dwar" was held in 5 phases during the last 5 years. A large number of peoples and public problems were solved by bringing the common people from the street face-to-face with the Chief Minister and the top administrative officials. The common people told their problems and got the solutions on the spot. This program has been a spectacular success.
"Vidhayak Aapke Dwar": Treading the same lines as done by the Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot went to each ward and village along with the civic and administrative officials and solved peoples problems on the spot.
This program was a great success because all the visits to the colonies and villages were held on holidays, so that each and every person could tell their genuine problems and get them solved.

Tackling The Civic Problems Of Highly Populated Colonies In Danger Of Being Turned To Slums
By Sanjay Sharma, Section Development
Posted on Sat Jan 15, 2005 at 09:48:55 PM EST
When Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot took over as the Member Of Legislative Assembly (MLA) 25 highly populated colonies were in the danger of turning into virtual slums. There were no roads, no sewage system, no drinking water supply, and no street lights. Parks left out as open spaces were breeding grounds for pigs and other stray cattle.
Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot took this task of developing the colonies as an immediate challenge because these clusters of the poor and have-nots were at the receiving end of the society. If their problems were not tackled, they could prove to be a law and order menance as such situations are breeding grounds for criminals. By facing it head-on Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot was also tackling the law and order problem simultaneously.
The task which looked impossible in the beginning turned out to be a very fruitful endeavor, and resulted in the beautification and peaceful atmosphere in the city.
All the 25 colonies were provided with the basic amenities like sewage, drinking water, cemented roads, street lights, and parks were also developed. This has been one of the signature contributions of Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot.

- A special post of the DSP-Traffic was created to solve the traffic problems of the city.
- At many junctions the traffic was made one-way so that there were fewer traffic jams, particularly at Sikanderpur Village and old city locations.
- Additional traffic police was also put in service to control the increased traffic in the city.
Local city bus service was also introduced which is running successfully.

Inadequate roads were inherited from the previous Government. As roads are the parameters of development of progress, Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot broadened roads in his constituency.
All important roads were repaired with tarcoal and RCC. And roads with heavy traffic were made 4-lanes.

Unprecedented Development During The Last 5 Years
By Sanjay Sharma, Section Development
Posted on Wed Jan 12, 2005 at 06:35:57 PM EST
In the last 5 years a dusty and backwater Gurgaon has changed into a dynamic, growing, modern, and progressive city which is now a major player in the national and international stage.
To cope with the unprecedented growth of Gurgaon (where the eligible number of voters has increased from 1,90,000 to 2,90,000! since the last elections) developement works were put on fast track in cities and villages.
Mr. Gopi Chand Gehlot has also been acutely aware that Gurgaon must balance the needs of both the urban areas and the rural area. Even as the urban areas grew from strength to strength, he made all efforts to pull the villages into the 21st century. Equitable and balanced work in every ward of the villages and city for roads, sewer, water supply, and parks.
- A modern Transport Nagar (Naharpur Rupa) has been established near NH-8.
- An Auto Market (Basai Road) was also established.
- And the construction of Sikanderpur bypass completed.
