When Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot took over as the Member Of Legislative Assembly (MLA) 25 highly populated colonies were in the danger of turning into virtual slums. There were no roads, no sewage system, no drinking water supply, and no street lights. Parks left out as open spaces were breeding grounds for pigs and other stray cattle.
Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot took this task of developing the colonies as an immediate challenge because these clusters of the poor and have-nots were at the receiving end of the society. If their problems were not tackled, they could prove to be a law and order menance as such situations are breeding grounds for criminals. By facing it head-on Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot was also tackling the law and order problem simultaneously.
The task which looked impossible in the beginning turned out to be a very fruitful endeavor, and resulted in the beautification and peaceful atmosphere in the city.
All the 25 colonies were provided with the basic amenities like sewage, drinking water, cemented roads, street lights, and parks were also developed. This has been one of the signature contributions of Bhai Gopi Chand Gehlot.
